White etching structures in annealed 52100 bearing steel arising from high-pressure torsion tests

چکیده

White Etching Areas observed in failed rolling bearings have been associated with the presence of Severe Plastic Deformation conditions, which can be achieved by High-Pressure Torsion tests; thus, this technique was selected to produce Structures annealed AISI 52100. Their origin arises from two main phenomena: Firstly, relative movement between anvil/samples creates instabilities and interruption plastic flow close surface sample. Secondly, hard discontinuities such as carbide clusters non-metallic inclusions interrupt inside samples. Both phenomena seem promote dissolution ferritic matrix so could not only but also Areas.

A Study of White Etching Areas in an Annealed 52100 Steel through High Pressure Torsion Processes

INTRODUCTION White Structure Flaking (WSF) is a type of surface damage responsible for some early failures in wind turbine gearbox bearings. WSF has been associated with microstructural changes registered close to the damaged surface that appear to be white after etching, hence the name White Etching Areas (WEAs). Local hydrogen liberation from lubricants [2] and adiabatic shear bands [3] have...

Experimental and Simulation Studies of Strength and Fracture Behaviors of Wind Turbine Bearing Steel Processed by High Pressure Torsion

White structure flaking (WSF) has been found to be one of the failure modes in bearing steels under rolling contacts through the formation of cracks associated with a microstructural change called white etching area (WEA). In the present research, the effects of the high-pressure torsion (HPT) process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of an AISI 52100 alloy are studied. An anneale...

Numerical Analysis of Severe Plastic Deformation by High Pressure Torsion

High-pressure torsion (HPT) is a metal processing method in which the sample is subjected to a very high plastic shear deformation. This process can produce exceptional levels of grain refinement, and provides a corresponding improvement in mechanical properties. To investigate the stress and strain distribution due to HPT process finite element simulation were conducted to investigate effectiv...

Superplasticity of Annealed H13 Steel

H13 steel is a widely used hot work die material. A new type of hot working method is imperative to develop complex and precise dies. In this paper, the heat treatment of H13 steel (AISI) was carried out by annealing, the final structure is a point or spherical pearlite, and the grain size is about 30-40 μm. The tensile properties of the annealed microstructure were investigated at 650, 750, an...

Microstructural evolution and phase transformation in twinning-induced plasticity steel induced by high-pressure torsion

The microstructural evolution of twinning-induced plasticity steel during high-pressure torsion (HPT) processing at 573 K was systematically evaluated. Due to the high processing temperature, the formation of a homogeneous nanostructure was primarily dominated by complicated dislocation and grain boundary activities in lieu of deformation twinning. Apart from the grain refinement process, phase...
